Bringing a snack to the library for a long study session can be a tremendous help in preparing for exams. A bag of potato chips and an energy drink, however, are not the right things to eat. Nuts

If you are looking for a quick snack to bring with you, nuts are another excellent source of healthy fats. Nuts are abundant in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, as well as Vitamins E and B6. Quinoa

Quinoa is a protein-based seed that can be cooked as a rice supplement. It is one of the healthiest grains available and does wonder for the brain and body. Quinoa contains a large amount of iron, which, is in charge of carrying oxygen between cells. This is essential to the workings of the brain and helps prevent headaches and lethargy. Quinoa increases mental acuity and gives you more energy to stay awake. While it may not be as popular or well known as rice or bread, quinoa is a healthy grain available in grocery stores everywhere.

Fish

Cold-water fish are one of the most useful study foods available. A good deal of our brain is comprised of fatty tissue and the best kind of healthy fat for replenishing it is Omega-3 fatty acid. Lucky for us, fish is full of it. These fats are known to increase brain energy, enhance learning abilities and help the communication between brain cells. The best types of fish are salmon, tuna, halibut, and mackerel, all of which are readily available at local supermarkets. While it may not be an easy snack, having fish tacos or a tuna sandwich for lunch can really help your learning capacity.

Water

While energy drinks contain helpful electrolytes, there is nothing better for the brain than water. The brain is about 85% water, so it obviously needs to be replenished. Water gives the brain fuel necessary for functions and hydrates much longer than other liquids. Sodas and fruit juices contain too many simple sugars, they will ultimately end in a hard crash. It is recommended that about 1200 mL of water are consumed a day, to have the brain and body working at its maximum potential. Carrying around a water bottle that can be refilled at a water fountain or sink, will save you money and help your entire body.

Putting the right food and drink into your body before a big exam can make all the difference in the world. Having your brain working at its highest capacity and having a healthy body will make studying and retention a lot easier.
